Cocoa Police Department Partners With Nextdoor On New Neighborhood App

BREVARD COUNTY • COCOA, FLORIDA — The Cocoa Police Department has partnered with a private online network called Nextdoor, a free private social networking website for local neighborhoods.
It makes it easy to connect with neighbors and build stronger and safer communities.
Thousands of neighborhoods around the country are already using the free app to get the word out about a break-in, organize a neighborhood watch group, or ask for help to find a lost pet and multiple other uses that help people connect.
“It’s another way we can connect with our residents,” said Chief Mike Cantaloupe.
“Our use of social media needs to expand with the available technology. It is unique in its ability to provide direct two-way communication to specific sectors of our community.”

The department will use the app to notify residents of active scenes that may impact their neighborhood, issue specific alerts regarding trending activity, public safety messages and relevant information specific to each area of the community.
The app will also post the information to the department’s other social media sites such as Facebook and Twitter.
“These days everyone is on some type of social media platform,” Chief Cantaloupe said.
“We want to encourage residents in our city to use this app with us so we can work together to keep each other informed and make our neighborhoods even safer.”
