A Cocoa police officer suffered non-life threatening injuries after a suspect fled an attempted traffic stop Thursday evening.

BREVARD COUNTY • COCOA, FLORIDA – A Cocoa police officer suffered non-life threatening injuries after a suspect fled an attempted traffic stop Thursday evening.

According to Yvonne Martinez, Cocoa Police Public Information Officer, the driver of a suspicious vehicle believed to have been stolen ran over the officer’s foot in an attempt to flee.

The initial traffic stop occurred at 9:29 p.m. in the area of Fiske Boulevard and Grove Street.

The suspect vehicle, a PT Cruiser, was confirmed stolen. After a brief foot pursuit, the suspect was taken into custody.

The officer is being treated for the injuries to his foot. The investigation is ongoing.
