Melbourne Police Arrest Suspect Who Went On Robbery Spree At Subway, TD Bank

ABOVE VIDEO: The Melbourne Police Department arrested Skyler Christian Awad, 27, after police say he robbed a Subway sandwich shop and then a TD Bank branch in Melbourne within a two hour period on Monday morning. The police pursuit was stopped only after officers performed a precision immobilization technique (PIT) maneuver on the vehicle, resulting in it going off the road and hitting a light pole.

BREVARD COUNTY • MELBOURNE, FLORIDA – The Melbourne Police Department arrested Skyler Christian Awad, 27, after police say he robbed a Subway sandwich shop and then a TD Bank branch in Melbourne within a two hour period on Monday morning.

Awad, of 668 Oak Ridge Drive in Indialantic, was charged with Attempted Robbery, Robbery, Aggravated Fleeing and Eluding, Aggravated Assault on a Law Enforcement Officer and Driving while License Suspended.

In the first robbery, police say Awad entered the Subway sandwich shop located at 1377 N. Harbor City Boulevard at about 9:15 a.m. and demanded the employee give him money.

After failing to get any money, Awad fled the store on foot. An extensive area search was conducted by Melbourne police and Brevard County Sheriff’s Office, both patrol Deputies and STAR, however, the suspect was not located.

Police said it was believed he had fled the area in a blue-colored car.

SECOND ROBBERY: TD BANK ON BABCOCK STREET

Police said that at about 10:27 a.m., an armed robbery was reported at the TD Bank, located at 1025 S. Babcock Street.

Officers were searching the area for the suspect when they located a blue-colored car matching the description of the previous robbery. Authorities attempted to stop the car on US 1 near Prospect Avenue, however, the car and driver fled.

Officers gave chase and pursued the suspect through south Melbourne and north Palm Bay. During the pursuit, officers attempted to deploy tire deflation devices. During one of these attempts, the suspect swerved in the direction of one of the officers in what appeared to be attempt to strike her.

The pursuit was stopped only after officers performed a precision immobilization technique (PIT) maneuver on the vehicle, resulting in it going off the road and hitting a light pole.

The driver was taken into custody and identified as Awad and, according to police, he has been positively identified as the suspect in both the Subway and TD Bank robberies.
