BREVARD COUNTY • MELBOURNE, FLORIDA – New cars will soon be put into service at the Melbourne Police Department.

They are the first in a series of replacement vehicles purchased under a Council-approved plan to address immediate needs and eliminate future issues with the City’s public safety fleet.

This year 38 vehicles will be replaced under the plan.

Since the economic downturn of 2008, the City had been deferring the replacement of older public safety vehicles, some of which had actually failed while in service.

To reverse this trend, the Melbourne City Council approved a plan in September 2015 that will dedicate a portion of tax revenues each year for the next 10 years to replace police vehicles and fire rescue apparatus.
