BREVARD COUNTY • MELBOURNE, FLORIDA – George Zimmerman, the neighborhood watch captain who was acquitted of second-degree murder in the shooting of Trayvon Martin in 2013, is now selling the gun that killed the teen, according to WOFL Fox 35.

“I recently received it back from the Department of Justice. They took it after my trial, after I was exonerated,” Zimmerman said.

WOFL reached out to Trayvon Martin’s family attorney for comment.

“The Trayvon Martin Foundation is committed to its mission of ending senseless gun violence in the United States.  This election season, we are laser focused on furthering that mission. As such, the foundation has no comment on the actions of that person.”

According to Fox 35, Zimmerman says that he continues to receive death threats while in hiding and has had several more after putting this gun up for auction.

Zimmerman said he is unconcerned with how critics might react to the sale.

“They’re not going to be bidding on it, so I couldn’t care less about them,” said Zimmerman to WOFL Fox 35. “I’m a free American. I can do what I like with my possessions.”

In the auction description, Zimmerman calls the pistol “a piece of American History” and makes multiple references to his perceived enemies that includes “B. Hussein Obama.”

“The firearm for sale is the firearm that was used to defend my life and end the brutal attack from Trayvon Martin,” writes Zimmerman to WOFL Fox 35.

“I am proud to announce that a portion of the proceeds will be used to fight BLM violence against Law Enforcement officers, ensure the demise of Angela Correy’s persecution career and Hillary Clinton’s anti-firearm rhetoric.”

Back in July 2013, Zimmerman was acquitted of second-degree murder and manslaughter charges in Trayvon Martin’s death.

The acquittal helped form the Black Lives Matter activist movement.

In February 2015, the Department of Justice (DOJ) found there was not enough evidence to charge George Zimmerman with a hate crime in the deadly shooting.

The gun, a Kel-Tec PF-9 9mm pistol, is being auctioned on GunBroker.com. The starting bid is set at $5,000. The auction will go live Thursday at 11 a.m.
