BREVARD COUNTY, FLORIDA – Friday evening our agency hosted the inaugural “Spend A Night In Jail So A Child Never Has To” Corporate Fundraiser and Team Building event at the Brevard County Sheriff’s Office Special Programs Facility on Camp Road in Sharpes.

The event brought various corporate teams of 8 together at the facility to spend the night in jail while taking part in over 20 team building exercises that are designed to enhance performance on the job.

As part of the fundraising effort, each team contributed $1,000 to the BCSO Police Athletic Program in an effort to help our agency get to kids before they get to us.

In keeping with the theme of the event, the teams arrived at 6 p.m. and were transported into the facility on one of our prisoner transport buses where they were put through a “mock” booking procedure and given inmate uniforms that were color coordinated to their team.

After having to make their bunks they enjoyed an incredible dinner (not what we serve in our jail by the way) that was provided by Kelly’s BBQ of Port Saint John.

Following dinner, the various teams competed against each other in an assortment of team building exercises that required each team to work closely to complete tasks that were timed and in direct competition with the other teams.

The competition lasted until early in the morning when the winning team was announced and allowed to leave the jail first.

The goal was to bring various components of our community together in an effort to help support BCSO PAL that provides various programs to kids throughout Brevard County. Even though the theme was spending the night in jail all of the participants had a great time working together to make a difference in our community.

While the Courthouse Services Team from the Brevard County Sheriff’s Office won the overall event I would like to personally thank the City of Palm Bay, the City of Rockledge, Bansbach Easylift, Eastern Florida State College, Berman Hopkins, Health First, Community Champions, and our teams from our BCSO Parkway Complex for participating in the event and doing everything they can to help kids in our community.

This is another perfect example of what happens when a community works together to protect it’s community!
