WASHINGTON D.C. – For one night each year, politicians put aside their partisan differences and battle it out on the diamond.

This year Florida Republican Congressman Tom Rooney came through in the clutch by roping a ball to right field for the walk off game-winner, as the Republicans defeated the Democrats 8-7 at Nationals Park in Washington D.C.

The annual event pits Republican Members of Congress vs. Democrat Members of Congress in a game of fast pitch baseball. The overall purpose is for the charities, that benefit from the tens of thousands of dollars raised.

The annual game has been tradition ever since 1909 and is played every year in Washington D.C.
