BREVARD COUNTY • MELBOURNE, FLORIDA – The City of Melbourne will host a groundbreaking ceremony July 12 at 5:30 p.m. at Riverview Park for the city’s new state-of-the-art playground structure.
Riverview Park is located at 2400 Riverview Drive in Melbourne.
The new playground will be the first of its kind in Brevard County, with unique features like multi-generation “PLAY” elements, curved shaped supports and kaleidoscope-like art features.
It has been designed to provide interest, as well as physical and mental challenges to children of all ages and abilities.
Installing the new playground is the first phase of a multi-year master plan that the Melbourne City Council adopted in 2014 to restore and improve the 16-acre park.
In addition to the destination playground, the City of Melbourne expects to complete the following projects by the end of this year:
• Installation of five 20’ x 20’ shade canopies around the playground.
• Renovations to the existing pavilion.
• Shoreline restoration.
The cost of the new playground was $190,396 and is being funded through the City’s annual Community Development Block Grant from the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development.
