Mayfield's reputation is students come first
BREVARD COUNTY • MELBOURNE, FLORIDA – Florida Parents Against Common Core announced that they have endorsed Debbie Mayfield for State Senate, District 17.
Mayfield is facing Mike Thomas and Ritch Workman in the Republican primary election that will be held on August 30. Amy Tidd is unopposed in the Florida State Senate District 17 Democratic primary.
“I first met Representative Mayfield at the Broward County Davie hearing conducted in 2013 by the Florida Department of Education,” said State Director for FPACC Luz Gonzalez.
“She was the only legislator I saw in attendance engaging with parents as well as listening attentively to the concerns expressed by educators. Since then Mayfield has demonstrated a repeated and sincere commitment to bottom-up politics, in education that means respecting and championing those most affected by education policy – students, teachers, and parents.
“Not only did her sponsorship of HB25 in 2013 show her leadership, but it cemented her reputation as someone who will put students ahead of special interests or party leadership, at risk of her own political future.”
Florida Parents Against Common Core has been outspoken against Common Core at both the state and national level. They have been committed to the removal of the Common Core standards system in order to return educations decisions to the local level.
“I am honored to receive the endorsement of FPACC. They have been crucial in the fight against Common Core in the state of Florida, which has been detrimental to our state’s education system and is a prime example of government overreach into our daily lives,” said Mayfield.
“I will always fight to remove government intervention and return controls of our children’s’ education to where it belongs, to parents,” .
Mayfield has been endorsed by the Florida Parents Against Common Core, Liberty First Network, the Republican Liberty Caucus of Florida, the Ronald Reagan Club of Brevard County, the Republican Women of Indian River County, Cocoa Beach Hotel and Motel Association and more.
