Joe LeBlanc’s Little League Report: Port St. John, North Merritt Island Advance

BREVARD COUNTY, FLORIDA – Major Baseball pool play continued at Holder Park Friday night with Port St. John Little League playing Mims Little League.
PORT ST. JOHN 12, MIMS 7: For Mims, Ethan Roberts and Dustin Lind each scored twice. But Port St. John’s scoring was lead by solo homers from Ryan Vite, Ryan Cannon and two from Mikey Bumgardner. Ryan Vite was the winning pitcher in Port’s 12 – 7 victory in 6 full innings.
NORTH MERRITT ISLAND 19, ROCKLEDGE 9: Over at W. W. James Parks, North Merritt Island Little League met Rockledge Little League in Junior Baseball pool play. Rockledge batted around in the top of the 2nd inning and jumped out to a 7-0 lead. Nick Berry had the big hit with a 3 run double that cleared the bases.
Aiden Webb led off the inning with a single and also had a RBI single in his second at bat of the inning. But the lead would not hold as North Merritt Island battled back with 2 runs in the bottom of the 2nd on a RBI single by Ryan Duggan, 4 runs in the 3rd inning on errors by the defense and 2 more runs in the 4th inning on RBI hits by Brandon Gay and Ian Farrow.
Going into the 5th inning, North Merritt Island clung to an 8-7 lead. Rockledge would take the lead in the top of the 5th when Trent Durham doubled and Kameron Wiggins plated another run with a RBI. The 5th inning, however, would belong to North Merritt Island as they finally broke through and sent 13 batters to the plate and scored 11 runs. Ryan Duggan, Jacob Raucci, Joe Negele and Brandon Gay all had run-scoring base hits to put the game out of reach with a final score of 19-9. Ian Farrow picked up the win in relief for North Merritt Island.
For Major and Junior pool play, teams will get a break on Saturday and play will resume on Sunday afternoon with doubleheaders in each division.
For Majors, Indian River City and Port St. John will meet at 1 p.m. and Mims will meet Rockledge at 4 p.m. on Saturday. The Juniors will see Indian River City taking on Rockledge at 1 p.m. followed by North Merritt Island and Mims at 4 p.m.
