LITTLE LEAGUE REPORT: Merritt Island Goes 3-1 Last Weekend In Section 3 State Tournament

Merritt Island Little League is the 10/11/12 Baseball Section 3 Champions and will represent Section 3 in the State of Florida Tournament next weekend in Fort Pierce.

BREVARD COUNTY, FLORIDA – During the past weekend, the 10-12 baseball team from Merritt Island was at the State of Florida Tournament in Fort Pierce.

Merritt Island won their game Friday night against the Section 8 Champions from Kendall Little League by a score of 17-0 in 4 innings.

In their two Saturday games, Merritt Island defeated Section 1’s Defuniak Springs Little League 17-0 in 3 1/2 innings, and then rolled past Section 6 Champions, Sarasota American Little League, in 4 innings with a 15-0 victory.

Merritt Island’s 3-0 record in pool play advanced them to Sunday’s championship game, where their offense was held in check by the Section 2 Champs from North Palm Beach Little League in a 4-0 loss.

North Palm Beach moves on to represent Florida in the Southeast Regional Tournament which will be held at Southeast Region headquarters in Warner Robbins, Georgia.

District 22 wants to congratulate all teams from this year’s All-Star tournaments. The following teams went to Section and State:

• 8/9/10 Baseball — Merritt Island Little League advanced through Sectionals and went to State, but were defeated in the State Final.

9/10/11 Baseball — Merritt Island Little League advanced through Sectionals and went to State, but did not advance out of pool play.

10/11/12 Baseball — Merritt Island Little League advanced through Sectionals and went to State, but were defeated in the State Final.

Junior Baseball — Indian River City Little League advanced to Sectional but did not advance to State.

Senior Baseball — Port St. John Little League advanced to Sectional but did not advance to State.

10/11/12 Softball — Port St. John Little League advanced to Sectional but did not advance to State.

Junior Softball — Mims Little League advanced to Sectional but did not advance to State.
