BREVARD COUNTY • PALM BAY, FLORIDA – Palm Bay Mayor William Capote was joined on Wednesday by school principals and leaders from the faith based community who came together to discuss ways to share resources and address issues facing young people in Palm Bay.
The goal of the meeting was to begin a discussion that will unite the community through compassion and kindness.
“Palm Bay is filled with organizations and leaders that are all great on their own but my hope is that we will bring everyone together collectively to have a larger impact,” Capote explained at the meeting Wednesday.
During the two hour long meeting at Jupiter Elementary, participants discussed programs already in existence at schools and churches and brainstormed ways to utilize those programs to address existing needs. The group also used this opportunity to identify other potential partnerships within the community.
“Looking to the future we want to see the children in Palm Bay grow up to be not just educated but also kind and compassionate adults with a strong foundation of values” said Capote.
“Bringing the leaders of churches and schools together is starting a dialogue that will build a framework for a better future.”
Mayor Capote’s initiative was inspired by his recent visit to Indianapolis where he attended the U.S. Conference of Mayors. At the conference Capote heard from the Dali Lama who challenged the Mayors in attendance to further a discussion of the power of kindness and compassion in the world.
