Freight Train Smashes Into Vehicle At FEC Crossing At Hibiscus Blvd. In Melbourne

Melbourne police officers responded to the intersection of Hibiscus Blvd. and FEC in reference to a vehicle collision with a train on Thursday evening about 7:05 p.m.

BREVARD COUNTY • MELBOURNE, FLORIDA – Melbourne police officers responded to the intersection of Hibiscus Blvd. and FEC in reference to a vehicle collision with a train on Thursday evening about 7:05 p.m.

According to police, the investigation revealed the driver, sole occupant, of the vehicle was traveling West on Hibiscus Blvd. as the train was approaching.

The driver tried crossing the tracks as the crossing arm lowered down onto the vehicle. The train then came through the intersection making contact with the rear section of the vehicle. The vehicle spun around and came to a stop on the West side of the train tracks.

The driver was emotionally distraught but did not appear to have any noticeable injuries. The driver elected to be transported to the hospital as a precaution. The train has since been released from the scene and traffic returned to normal.
