BREVARD COUNTY, FLORIDA – Friday Night Locker Room’s Alan Zlotorzynski talked with reporter/play-by-play announcer Austin Lyon of Bright House Sports Network about the upcoming prep sports season in Central Florida.
Lyon joined Bright House Sports Network in August 2012 after nearly a decade of covering high school sports in Central Florida.
His career began as a freelance writer for the Orlando Sentinel while attending Bishop Moore High School. He also interned with the Florida High School Athletic Association Radio Network, assisting with state championship broadcasts in football, boys and girls basketball, girls volleyball, baseball and softball.
Upon graduating from Bishop Moore in 2003, Lyon joined Friday Night Football, an Orlando high school football radio program on WORL. His responsibilities included serving as the play-by-play announcer for live radio broadcasts and hosting a postgame call-in show.
In 2008, Lyon started working as a reporter for Orlando Sentinel Varsity Sports, a weekly high school sports television show on WFTV. He transitioned to the editorial department in 2011 as a beat reporter covering high school and local sports.
Lyon’s responsibilities for Bright House Sports Network include serving as a play-by-play announcer, reporter and writer for BHSN.com.
He is a basketball junkie who also enjoys playing golf and watching TV shows on his DVR. Lyon lives in Maitland with his fiancé, Michelle, and his greyhound-beagle mix dog, Kona.
