Melbourne PD, Cocoa PD Take Down Two Stolen Vehicle Suspects After Police Chase Monday Night

Both Charged With Grand Theft Auto

BREVARD COUNTY • MELBOURNE, FLORIDA – Melbourne Police have arrested two people on multiple charges resulting from a police chase late Monday night after it was revealed the vehicle was a stolen vehicle, according to Lt. T.A. Turner of the Melbourne Police Department.
Police arrested 21-year-old Sharrod Lavelle Strickland and 18-year-old Nikeyria Je’mya Angelica Williams. Both suspects are from the Cocoa area.
Monday night, Melbourne police officers observed a gray GMC truck in the area of Eau Gallie and US-1. A check of the tag revealed it was stolen in Cocoa, according to police.
A traffic stop was attempted resulting in the truck fleeing northbound when an attempt to deploy stop sticks in the area of Lake Washington and US-1 was not successful by police.
The Brevard County Sheriff’s Tactical Aviation Unit assisted and was able to establish surveillance on the stolen vehicle as it travelled up into the Merritt Island area.
Another traffic stop was initiated with assistance from the Brevard County Sheriff’s Department resulting in the successful arrest of the suspects.
Strickland is charged with Grand Theft Auto, Aggravated Fleeing, Reckless driving, Driving on a Suspended License.
Williams is charged with Grand Theft Auto and Driving on a Suspended License
Rockledge Police Department and Cocoa Police Department also assisted in the chase.
