Melbourne Police Department has arrested Linval Penny early Tuesday morning after suspect runs stop sign, flees officers and attempted to strike officers.

BREVARD COUNTY • MELBOURNE, FLORIDA – Melbourne Police Department has arrested 35-year-old Linval Penny early Tuesday morning after the suspect ran a stop sign, fled officers and attempted to strike officers, according to Sgt. Brad Blout of the Melbourne Police Department.

In a release by police, Melbourne police were conducting patrols in the area of W. H. Jackson Street and Stone Street, when they observed a Black Chevrolet Camaro run the stop sign at the intersection.

A traffic stop was conducted and the officers were immediately alerted to the smell of Marijuana upon contact with the driver, Linval Penny.

The suspect attempted to flee from the officers, during which time he attempted to strike officers, according to authorities.

Officers on scene deployed their department issued Taser, at which time Penny was placed under arrest.

A probable cause search incident to arrest of Penny revealed the presence of a trafficking amount of cocaine, around 29-grams, 9-grams of marijuana and drug paraphernalia.

Penny was turned over to Sharpes Correction Facility.
