Brevard County Libraries Surpasses One Million Digital Checkouts In 2016

BREVARD COUNTY, FLORIDA – Brevard County Libraries has hit a milestone by surpassing one million checkouts of eBooks, eAudiobooks, and periodicals from their OverDrive digital catalog http://brevard.lib.overdrive.com

The one-millionth checkout was the eBook version of Lost Souls by Dean Koontz, borrowed on Oct. 1, 2016.

“Since its inception in August 2011, our OverDrive Digital catalog has proven to be a popular service,” according to Library Services Director Jeff Thompson. “There are over 16,500 eBooks, 2,080 eAudiobooks and 25 periodical titles available in our collection. Loans are free to all Brevard County Library cardholders.”

This milestone and the increase in digital circulation at Brevard County Libraries echoes the overall growth of digital library usage worldwide with more than 93 percent of public libraries in the U.S. now offering eBooks.

eBooks and audiobooks can be streamed or downloaded on tablets, smart phones, eReaders and computers and will automatically return at the end of the lending period.

There are never any overdue titles or fines. Popular titles in the Brevard County Libraries eBook collection include A Murder in Time, The Girl on the Train, and Make Me.
