BREVARD COUNTY, FLORIDA – Please join me in congratulating our Explosive Detection K-9 team who were asked to help secure the recent Trump Presidential Rally in Melbourne and the Clinton Rally in Indian River County.

Our K-9 teams were also recently the centerpiece of National Convention security efforts as requested by the Transportation Security Administration / Department of Homeland Security.

Deputies Bob Aoun, Brian Fritz and Jerry Shealy along with their canine partners were instrumental in the efforts to secure the Melbourne Airport this past Tuesday for the Donald Trump Rally and were also called into service by the Indian River County Sheriff’s Office to support security efforts for Hillary Clinton during a visit to Vero Beach several days later.

Their efforts helped secure the facilities in an effort to protect the attendees, the volunteers, and the candidates themselves.

Our Explosives Detection Canine Team is stationed at Port Canaveral and protects it’s 4+ million cruise passengers, facilities, employees, visitors and businesses.

Currently we have five K-9 teams protecting Brevard County with this groundbreaking program and the only one of its kind in the country. Due to the overwhelming success of the program, TSA is current lobbying for a sixth team.

The BCSO Explosive Detection K-9 teams are 100% funded by Homeland Security in partnership with our agency to protect Port Canaveral and surrounding area airports.
