NATIONAL HURRICANE CENTER – At 5 a.m. Tuesday, the National Hurricane Center has powerful Hurricane Matthew forecast to parallel the Space Coast Thursday night and Friday as a Category 3 storm, which is 111-129 mph.
The threat to east central Florida is serious and increasing.
Based on the current track and intensity, damaging winds and flooding rain will be possible over east central Florida, especially near the coast, along with potential for severe beach erosion and coastal flooding.
A hurricane watch will likely be issued for portions of east central Florida later this morning.
Now is the time to consider implementing your hurricane plan.
Florida Gov. Rick Scott declared a state of emergency on Monday, saying there could be “massive destruction” if Matthew directly impacts Florida. Scott stresses everyone needs to prepare by fueling vehicles, stocking up on water and food, and by charging cell phones.
