BREVARD COUNTY • TITUSVILLE, FLORIDA (FOX 35) – Monday kicks off homecoming week at Astronaut High School in Titusville, but the students are going to have to find their school spirit without their brand new LED legacy sign after someone destroyed it over the weekend.

The shiny new sign, installed the first week of school to welcome the students back, was smashed and broken Friday night, according to Principal Krista Miller.

“Both sides of the Plexiglas, as you can see, were busted out and there are substantial dents on both sides of the LED that you can tell are not from weather, but are from an intentional heinous act,” Principal Miller said.

She thinks it happened sometime between 9pm and 11pm. The sign, which can be seen all the way down the block, was shattered and the LED message screen was destroyed.

“My heart just sank,” Miller told Fox 35, “I felt like my house had been broken into; because this is my home, I spend more time here than I do at my own home and this is just something I’m so proud of and it made me sick. This has been 3 years-worth of effort to try to raise money for a sign that’s this expensive.”
