BREVARD COUNTY • PALM BAY, FLORIDA – Several citizens assisted Palm Bay police officers in saving a driver from a fiery crash at about 12 noon Sunday at 4700 Dixie Highway in Palm Bay.

According to Karyn Barber, Community Information Coordinator, Palm Bay Police Sgt. Steve Shytle and Officer Ryan VanNote responded to the vehicle crash where they found it over the embankment and on fire.

“Upon arrival, the officers observed the driver trapped in the vehicle and began a rescue attempt,” said Barber in a release.

“During extraction, the driver became combative and the officers had to physically restrain the driver while getting him back to the edge of the road and away from the fire.”

Palm Bay Fire Rescue responded and provided medical treatment to the driver, who was then transported to Holmes Regional Medical Center with minor injuries.
