BREVARD COUNTY • MELBOURNE, FLORIDA – The women’s soccer duo of Keira McCarthy and Karlyn Prisco have been named the Mike Erdman Auto Group Athletes of the Week for their performances during the week of Oct. 3-9.

McCarthy and Prisco played a huge role in FIT’s 2-1 road win against the Lakers on Wednesday, Oct. 5, in Allendale, Michigan. GVSU, who is the three-time defending NCAA Division II National Champion (2013-15), had its 34-game win streak snapped in the loss.

On Monday, the Sunshine State Conference announced that the pair was selected the league’s Offensive and Defensive Players of the Week for their efforts in the victory.

McCarthy scored a pair of goals in the victory to help her team comeback from a halftime deficit. The sophomore tallied the equalizer in the 52nd minute off a great cross from teammate Aubri Williamson to put FIT on the board.

Her goal ended the Lakers’ scoreless streak that ranged 611 minutes and dated back to GVSU’s contest versus Minnesota State-Mankato on Sept. 11.

With only three minutes left on the clock, the sophomore struck again. McCarthy forced a turnover off the GVSU goalkeeper, dribbled once and fired in the eventual game winner.

Through 10 games, the Melbourne product ranks second in the SSC with nine goals, while her five game-winning-goals top the league.

On the other end of the pitch, Prisco had a strong showing in net for the Panthers to guide them to the win. The redshirt junior finished with six saves while limiting the Lakers, who average 3.85 goals per game, to just one tally on their home field.

The only goal allowed by Prisco in the contest was an own-goal that she initially made the save on, but the rebound bounced off a FIT defender and into the goal.

The Rockledge-product improved her record to 7-3 on the year. Prisco ranks second in the SSC with 44 saves, while her 0.792 goals against average is third best in the conference.

Florida Tech (7-3, 2-3 SSC) resumes SSC action this Wednesday, Oct. 12, with a trip to Fort Lauderdale, Florida to take on the Nova Southeastern Sharks at 7 p.m. ET.
