VIDEO: Cocoa Police Seek Identity of Arson Suspect Recorded On Officer’s Police Issue Body Camera

ABOVE VIDEO: Cocoa Police Officer R. Leitch recored this encounter with a suspect on his police body camera.  Cocoa police detectives are attempting to identify this individual who fled from Officer Leitch as he attempted to stop him for questioning about an active arson investigation.

BREVARD COUNTY • COCOA, FLORIDA – Cocoa police detectives are attempting to identify an individual who fled from an officer as the officer attempted to stop him for questioning about an active arson investigation.

The arson occurred on the morning of October 28 at 1514 Clearlake Road, Unit 14.

The investigation revealed an unknown suspect intentionally set furniture on fire on the back porch of the apartment.

Florida Highway Patrol Troopers and officers with the Florida Wildlife Commission were nearby and assisted with extinguishing the fire.

The State Fire Marshal was notified and responded. A witness described seeing an individual leaving the area shortly after the fire began.

He was described as a black male with short dreads, wearing a white t-shirt and long tan colored shorts.

Officers were immediately alerted to the description and within minutes Cocoa Police Officer R. Leitch attempted to make contact with an individual matching the description.

The individual fled on foot and Officer Leitch recorded the encounter on his police issue body camera.

Cocoa police detectives are asking anyone who recognizes the individual seen in the video to please contact the Cocoa Police Department at 321-639-7620 or CRIMELINE at 1-800-423-TIPS (8477). Callers may remain anonymous and can be eligible for cash rewards of up to $1,000 in this case.
