BREVARD COUNTY, FLORIDA – With Christmas now just weeks away and shopping time in full swing its time to turn our focus to Crime Prevention, Safety, and true enjoyment of the holidays.

In order to make sure that everyone has a safe and Merry Christmas I wanted to share with you my “Top Five Christmas Gift” ideas that may just be the unique gift you’ve been looking for.

Now I know everyone is probably expecting me to talk about the normal safety messages such as “don’t leave packages in plain view,” “always walk in pairs” and yada, yada, yada.

But this year, I am gonna take a completely different approach by mixing our list with items to help protect us, help our community, and help make sure that the true message of Christmas is not lost in the hustle and bustle of the holidays.

It’s been my experience that the best gifts during the holidays or any other time of the year for that matter are the ones that come from the heart, have the best of intentions and cost the least.

In fact, some of the greatest gifts I have ever received didn’t cost a thing, so over the course of the next 4 weeks I am going to use our Weekly Crime Prevention Message to share my “Top Five Christmas Gift” ideas that don’t cost a thing, but are priceless gifts for those we love.

NUMBER 5: Residential Security Survey

This program that is offered exclusively by the Brevard County Sheriff’s Office is an incredible Crime Prevention Tool that is free of charge and only takes about an hour to do. It makes a great gift idea for our seniors or anyone else in our community that wants to make sure that their home is a “hard” target and not a “soft” target for thieves and burglars.

The program involves a thorough evaluation of their residence by one of our Crime Prevention Specialist that is going to discuss with them everything they can do to upgrade security at their home from the front of the home, inside the home, out the back and on all sides.

Our team member will go over every potential security feature and known crime prevention technique for their home while also providing a list of everything that can be done to upgrade security at their residence.

In addition, they are also going to give the home owner two stickers for the front and back of their residence that say “This Property Safe Certified By The Brevard County Sheriff’s Office” and also an “alarm” styled sign for their yard that displays the same message.

The concept of the program is to make every homeowner aware of all of the latest available security features and upgrades as well as send a strong message to the criminal that says “this house is not an easy target!!”
