Waves are looking mostly unrideable this morning. Late-morning's lower tide could help make the small waves more rideable by then. Surfers seeking an early morning surf session may want to focus on Cocoa Beach's northernmost beaches for a longboardable wave. — Friday: Expect mostly thigh-high waves this afternoon with semi-clean lines along the northernmost Cocoa Beach areas. Brevard’s southernmost beaches will have waves in the waist-high range, but with more bumpy and drifty surface conditions. Saturday: Expect mostly thigh-high waves with bumpy lines from an early northeasterly wind. Sunday: I believe surf heights will build during the day into the waist- to chest-high range. Steady on shore winds will produce very bumpy conditions. Cocoa Beach ocean temperatures now average 74 degrees.

Bob Freeman has been surfing Brevard’s waves since 1966. He was also the first to surf several of North Carolina’s remote islands in the mid ’60s and travels frequently to surf in Puerto Rico, Costa Rica, Mexico and Hawaii. He provided his first surf reporting and weekend forecasts in 1968 live on WKKO radio from the RonJon Surf Shop on Cocoa Beach Pier. He was the 1968 Florida Men’s Surfing Champion and is the current Florida Legend’s Surfing Champion. He has gathered over 300 amateur 1st place awards in both shortboard and longboard divisions. He is a 2014 Inductee into the Space Coast Sports Hall of Fame.
