BREVARD COUNTY, FLORIDA – Elementary math resource teacher, Diane Gard, has been honored with the Kenneth P. Kidd Mathematics Educator of the Year Award by the Florida Council of Teachers of Mathematics (FCTM).
The Kenneth P. Kidd Mathematics Educator of the Year Award was established in 1976 by the Florida Council of Teachers of Mathematics.
The award is designed to recognize an individual’s outstanding contributions to mathematics education. Gard was nominated in October 2015 by a peer from another district. There are up to five people on the ballot at one time.
The FCTM’s board of directors voted and selected Gard for this honor at the state conference in October of this year.
Gard currently serves the district in her position as elementary mathematics resource teacher within the division of elementary leading and learning. Gard began her career at BPS in 1985.
After seven years of teaching mathematics education courses at the University of Central Florida, she returned to BPS in 1999. This year marks her 24th year with the district.
“I am honored and humbled to receive this prestigious award especially since I was chosen by my remarkable colleagues from throughout the state,” said Gard. “We are all working very hard to ensure students have the opportunity to be successful in mathematics. To be selected to represent the Florida Council of Teachers of Mathematics as a Mathematics Educator of the Year is incredible.”
