BREVARD COUNTY, FLORIDA – On Wednesday, Brevard Zoo staff helped Florida Fish and Wildlife officials release a manatee in Port St. John.

The healthy adult male manatee was found hanging out in the warm water discharge of a paper mill in South Carolina, where he may not have survived the winter, according to rescue personnel.

The manatee was transported to Jacksonville Zoo and Gardens by U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service and SeaWorld then later transferred to FWC’s manatee specialists, who drove the animal down to Brevard County.
