After much fanfare, Donald Trump has appointed ExxonMobil CEO Rex Tillerson as his Secretary of State.

(FORBES) – After much fanfare, with a carousel of candidates that included former Republican presidential candidate Mitt Romney and former New York City mayor Rudy Giuliani, Donald Trump has appointed ExxonMobil CEO Rex Tillerson as his Secretary of State.

The president-elect, whose untraditional cabinet also includes billionaire investor Wilbur Ross, and CKE Restaurants (of Hardee’s and Carl’s Jr. fame) CEO Andrew Puzder, made the announcement on Tuesday morning via Twitter:

The choice is likely to rouse critics on Capitol Hill from both sides of the aisle.

Tillerson, a lifelong ExxonMobil employee (he joined the firm after graduating from University of Texas – Austin), represents the kind of big oil, multinational corporate interest that Trump campaigned against on his “drain the swamp” platform.
