POLICE: Shots Fired In Parking Lot of Melbourne Square Mall, Suspects Sought

No one injured during shooting

The Melbourne Police Department received calls via 911 Tuesday at about 3:10 p.m. that reported an armed disturbance in the parking lot of the Melbourne Square Mall.

BREVARD COUNTY • MELBOURNE, FLORIDA – The Melbourne Police Department received calls via 9-1-1 Tuesday at about 3:10 p.m. that reported shots fired in the parking lot of the Melbourne Square Mall.

According to Melbourne Police Sgt. Brittney Skovsgard, the callers indicated that they observed two male subjects chasing each other around the parking lot. During this time, the witnesses told police they heard one or two shots fired, and observed the two males continue to scuffle with each other in the parking lot.

“After a short scuffle, the black male suspect entered a gray in color, older model Dodge Charger with black rims and red calipers and fled the area eastbound on New Haven Avenue,” said Sgt. Skovsgard in a release.

According to police, the suspect is described as a light-skin black male about 25 years of age. He is approximately 5-feet-11 inches tall and 165 pounds with short afro style hair.

“No one was injured during the shooting,” said Sgt. Skovsgard.

“However, the victim did sustain a minor cut to his head during the scuffle. He was tended to by emergency personnel at the scene and transported to a local hospital.”

Officers and detectives interviewed several witnesses while CSI processed the scene.

“At this time, the relationship between the victim and the suspect is being researched by detectives,” said Sgt. Skovsgard.

“We do not believe that the public is in any danger at this point and we believe this incident is isolated between the parties involved.”
