BREVARD COUNTY, FLORIDA – It seems all too surreal, but on Monday, as the sun began to shine on “National Law Enforcement Officer Day” and “Florida First Responder Week” two Central Florida Law Enforcement Officers were killed in the line of duty.

While our thoughts and prayers are with the agencies and families of our fallen heroes, their loss serves as a constant reminder of how dangerous a job being a Law Enforcement Officer is.

A somber reminder that our Law Enforcement Officers put their lives on the line each and every day to protect our community and that life no matter how great, is fragile and not guaranteed.

Statement From Sheriff Wayne Ivey Regarding Deadly Shooting Of Orlando Police Officer
On Monday, Master Sergeant Debra Clayton, a 17-year veteran with the Orlando Police Department was shot and killed in the line of duty while attempting to apprehend a violent fugitive in Orlando, Florida. Additionally, Motor Deputy First Class Norman Lewis, an 11-year veteran with the Orange County Sheriff’s Office was killed in a vehicle crash while supporting efforts to search for the suspect. Anytime we lose a member of our law enforcement family, it takes a piece of each us who share this profession. (BCSO image)
