Titusville High Teacher Ian Schwindt Named 2017 FMEA Secondary Music Educator of the Year

The Florida Music Educators Association (FMEA) awards committee has selected Ian Schwindt, music educator at Titusville High, as the 2017 FMEA Secondary Music Educator of the Year.

BREVARD COUNTY, FLORIDA – The Florida Music Educators Association (FMEA) awards committee has selected Ian Schwindt, music educator at Titusville High, as the 2017 FMEA Secondary Music Educator of the Year.  

The FMEA Music Educator of the Year recognizes outstanding merit in music teaching or music administration and is awarded annually to the music educator who has served his/her students, community and profession in an exemplary manner.

Schwindt is in his 17th year of teaching, all at Titusville High.  During his tenure, the program has doubled in size and significantly expanded its musical offerings including a full orchestra in the school day.

The bands and full orchestras consistently earn superiors at district and state music performance assessments.

In addition to his teaching responsibilities, Schwindt serves on Titusville’s leadership team, the Brevard County music leadership team and the Brevard County music advisory board.

Schwindt has served two terms as a district chairman for the Florida Bandmaster’s Association (FBA) and six years as the FBA all-state chair.  He is currently serves on multiple FMEA committees, the Florida School Music Association board and the FBA music committee.

Schwindt received his award during the FMEA Professional Development Conference at the Tampa Bay Convention Center on Friday.
