Melbourne Police Department Arrest 26-Year-Old Woman For Arson After Apartment Fire

BREVARD COUNTY • MELBOURNE, FLORIDA – Melbourne Police have arrested a 26-year-old woman, Jennifer Mae Wayne, for arson after police conducted an investigation regarding an apartment fire at 2951 Park Village Way.
According to police, Melbourne 911 dispatch received several calls in reference to a residential fire Tuesday night at 2951 Park Village Way. Members of both the Melbourne Police and Fire Departments responded to find visible flames and smoke inside the apartment.
Residents in the adjoining apartments were quickly evacuated and the fire was successfully extinguished without anyone sustaining injuries. However, the structure suffered substantial damage.
“A joint investigation with the Melbourne Fire Inspector and Police Department resulted in the arrest of the apartment’s lessee, Jennifer Mae Wayne, for the crime of arson and resisting an officer without violence,” said a spokesperson with the Melbourne Police Department.
“Witnesses observed the suspect, Ms. Wayne, exit the apartment as the fire was just beginning and then leave the area on foot without seeking help. Ms. Wayne was located in a nearby housing development at around 9 p.m..”
Ms. Wayne initially resisted the officers’ attempts to take her into custody by tensing and pulling away. They quickly gained control of Ms. Wayne and successfully secured her without injuring anyone involved.
The Melbourne Police Department is still investigating this incident.
