BREVARD COUNTY • COCOA BEACH, FLORIDA – Three Cocoa teens were taken into custody early Saturday morning, March 11, at about 4:15 a.m. for auto theft and burglary after attempting to flee from the Cocoa Beach police.
According to the Cocoa Beach police, officers responded to the Discovery Beach Resort, located at 300 Barlow Avenue regarding a suspicious person in the parking lot.
Once on-scene, the first responding officer began to approach an idling, white 2011 Chevy Impala occupied by a male juvenile driver, 17, and passenger Steven Baker, 18.
Upon hearing glass break, the officer turned to observe Richard Walsh, 18, inside a black Dodge pickup with a broken window and attempted to detain him to further investigate.
Walsh fled, then led the officer on a brief foot chase and physically resisted arrest until restrained.
The juvenile and Baker attempted to flee in the Chevy until other responding officers arrived. The juvenile ran, but was apprehended a short time later.
Baker complied and was arrested without incident. The Chevy had been stolen from another city and at least two other vehicles were burglarized in the resort lot.
All three teens were charged with multiple counts of Burglary and Theft. Walsh and the juvenile were additionally charged with Resisting Arrest without Violence.
Walsh and Baker were delivered to the Brevard County Correctional Facility.
The juvenile was delivered to the Juvenile Detention Center.
