Palm Bay Police Arrest 6th Grade Student After Bringing Gun To School, Say Police

Palm Bay Police have arrested a 6th grade student Tuesday morning at aound 9 a.m. after the student was reportedly in possession of a firearm on the school campus of Port Malabar Elementary School.

BREVARD COUNTY • PALM BAY, FLORIDA – Palm Bay Police have arrested a 6th grade student Tuesday morning at aound 9 a.m. after the student was reportedly in possession of a firearm on the school campus of Port Malabar Elementary School.

According to Lt. Mike Bandish of the Palm Bay Police Department, the student took the gun to school in his backpack and showed a couple of his classmates the gun.

Police say one of his classmates immediately notified the teachers.

The school staff took immediate action and notified Palm Bay Police, according to a spokesperson with the Palm Bay Police Department.

Investigators say the gun is a 9mm Glock and was unloaded, as the student had no ammunition with him.

The investigation has revealed the student had brought the gun to school to show some of his friends and had no intention of harming anyone, according to Lt. Bandish.
