BREVARD COUNTY • ROCKLEDGE, FLORIDA – The Rockledge police officer involved in a shooting incident involving a teen burglar suspect back on December 1 has been arrested for attempted manslaughter charges on Thursday.
The officer resigned from the police department a few weeks after the incident.
Former Cpl. Nicholas Galluzzi turned himself over to authorities and posted bond early Thursday morning at the Brevard County Jail, according to State Attorney Phil Archer’s office.
Galluzzi’s resignation came during an investigation by Florida Department of Law Enforcement regarding the shooting incident that left a 17-year-old male shot near Cogswell St. and Hawk St in Rockledge.
According to Rockledge Police Department spokeswoman Donna Seyferth, authorities responded just before midnight on December 1 after receiving numerous calls from local residents about two people breaking into cars.
When police located the teens, the two teen suspects fled from officers in a white Toyota Corolla but later struck a police cruiser which ended the chase, according Seyferth.
The 17-year-old surrendered to authorities at the scene, but was shot once while lying face-down on the ground, according to the State Attorney’s Office.
The two teens involved in the incident were both charged for their roles in the burglaries and the chase that ensued.
