Officials have reported a 10-year-old girl has been bit by a possible shark in Melbourne Beach on Monday afternoon and resulted in a 6-inch laceration on the girls leg.

BREVARD COUNTY • MELBOURNE BEACH, FLORIDA – Officials have reported a 10-year-old girl has been bit by a possible shark in Melbourne Beach on Monday afternoon and resulted in a 6-inch laceration on the girls leg.

The girl was transported Arnold Palmer Hospital in Orlando with a serious leg injury to her left calf.

The incident occurred around the 9000 block of A1A in Melbourne Beach at 4:45 p.m.

Brevard County spokesman Don Walker told WFTV that the injury is indicative of a shark bite.

Lifeguards cleared the beach as a precaution.
