Rain, storm chances increase starting Monday
BREVARD COUNTY • MELBOURNE, FLORIDA — Within a span of three hours on Saturday afternoon, Brevard County Fire Rescue reported three brush fires in the West Melbourne / Palm Bay area of Brevard County.
The fires were not large in size but did require an engine company, Brevard and Palm Bay Fire Rescue squads and the Forest Service to extinguish and clean up.
An approximately 2 acre brush fire broke out at Palm Bay Road and Interstate 95 in West Melbourne.
Crews from Brevard County Fire Rescue and Palm Bay extinguished the fire while the Florida Forest Service plowed lines around the fire for containment.
Another occurred near a home on the 400 block of Vine St. in West Melbourne but was quickly extinguished by BCFR’s Engine 82.
Outdoor fire warnings remain as the east coast of central Florida has yet to see the afternoon sea breeze thunderstorms that normally begin to occur this time of the year on a daly basis.
The storms are occurring on the west coast so there’s hope the drought will ease soon.
