Eastern Florida State College Titans’ Tommy Romero Named State’s Top Pitcher

BREVARD COUNTY • MELBOURNE, FLORIDA – For the second straight season an Eastern Florida State College pitcher has been named the Florida College System Activities Association Pitcher of the Year.

Tommy Romero was named the state’s top pitcher after helping guide the Titans to 31 wins and a trip to the state tournament. Former Titan Blair Calvo was the pitcher of the year in 2016.

Romero led NJCAA Division I baseball in strikeouts with 136 and was fifth ERA with a 1.13 earned run average.

His nine wins was tied for 22nd in the nation.

The sophomore finished with a 13.91 strikeout per nine rate and struck out at least 10 hitters in nine of his 14 regular-season starts this season.

The Ft. Lauderdale native was also recently named the Region 8 Pitcher of the Year.
