BREVARD COUNTY • MELBOURNE, FLORIDA – Florida Tech men’s lacrosse senior standout Grant Hughes was drafted by the Florida Launch in the 2017 Major League Lacrosse (MLL) Collegiate Draft.

The Launch selected Hughes with the first pick of the 10th round of the draft, 82nd overall.

The Windemere, Florida native becomes the first player in program history to be drafted by the MLL.

He is just the second in Sunshine State Conference history to be drafted – joining Connor Whipple of Tampa who was also taken by the Launch with the first pick of the ninth round in the 2017 draft.

“This is a huge day for Grant, the men’s lacrosse program and Florida Tech,” exclaimed head coach Ryan McAleavey.

“Being drafted in the MLL is a tremendous way for Grant to cap off his career at Florida Tech. We are excited for him and what he is going to do at the next level in his life.”

Florida Tech’s Grant Hughes was named an USILA/Nike Division II Honorable Mention All-American and an All-SSC First Team selection this season.

Hughes was named an USILA/Nike Division II Honorable Mention All-American and an All-SSC First Team selection this season.

The short stick defensive midfielder finished with 12 caused turnovers and eight ground balls in 2017.

He completed his career at Florida Tech with 32 ground balls, 25 caused turnovers, four goals and five assists.
