BREVARD COUNTY • MERRITT ISLAND, FLORIDA – Jonathan Clayton Hinkle, 28, was arrested Tuesday on charges of misusing 911 after calling 9-1-1 to get a ride to the Merritt Island Hooters.

According to the Brevard County Sheriff’s Office, Hinkle called 9-1-1 on March 5 and said that his grandmother, Gayle Strickland, 79, had a stroke in the parking lot of the Hooters restaurant, located at 125 North Sykes Creek Parkway.

Hinkle told the 9-1-1 operator he would pay first responders to transport him to the restaurant, and Brevard County Sheriff’s Deputies then searched for Strickland for three hours.

According to the Brevard County Sheriff’s Office, when Deputies found her they discovered she did not have a stroke, and did not tell Hinkle she was in need of medical assistance.
