Eastern Florida State’s Tommy Romero Named NJCAA Division I All-American

BREVARD COUNTY • MELBOURNE, FLORIDA – Eastern Florida State College starting pitcher Tommy Romero was named an NJCAA Division I first team All-American on Monday afternoon.

Romero, who was drafted in the 15th round of the Major League Baseball Draft last week, led NJCAA Division I baseball in strikeouts with 145 and was ninth in ERA with a 1.55 ERA. Romero started 15 games for the Titans, throwing 93 innings and picked up nine wins.

The sophomore finished with a 14.03 strikeout per nine rate which is third in the nation and he struck out at least 10 hitters in nine of his 15 starts this season.

The Ft. Lauderdale native was also recently named the Region 8 and FCSAA Pitcher of the Year.

Romero is the fifth Titan to be named a first team All-American this season, joining women’s soccer players Bunny Shaw and Darien Davis, men’s basketball player Kareem Brewton and men’s golfer Brad Bawden.
