Man, 65, Killed On A Bicycle After Collision With Vehicle In Merritt Island On Tuesday

Florida Highway Patrol are investigating a deadly crash that happened Tuesday morning after a vehicle struck and killed a man on his bicycle near State Road 520 and Newfound Harbor Dr. in Merritt Island.

BREVARD COUNTY • MERRITT ISLAND, FLORIDA – Florida Highway Patrol are investigating a deadly crash that happened late Tuesday morning after a vehicle struck and killed a man on his bicycle near State Road 520 and Newfound Harbor Dr. in Merritt Island.

According to Sgt. Kim Montes of the Florida Highway Patrol, the man is identified as a 65-year-old man from Merritt Island.

Authorities say the 2002 Jaguar was heading westbound on SR 520 and driving in the center, through lane, as the bicyclist was traveling in the designated bike lane, at around 11:55 a.m., on the roadway heading west.

Witnesses say the vehicle attempted to change lanes into the right lane, but traveled into the bike lane instead, striking and killing the 65-year-old man on his bike, according to Sgt. Montes.

The driver of the vehicle is identified by authorities as a 26-year-old woman by the name of Marina Vitale from Merritt Island.

FHP is still investigating crash and charges are pending.

The man’s name will be released as soon the family is notified.
