BREVARD COUNTY, FLORIDA – A significant weather advisory was issued for South Brevard Wednesday afternoon, according to the National Weather Service of Melbourne.

Strong thunderstorms and heavy rain are expected during rush hour.

Quarter-sized hail has been reported, according to local eyewitnesses in Melbourne.

According to the National Weather Service, Doppler radar is tracking a strong thunderstorm 7-miles southwest of Palm Bay, moving north at 15 mph.

Winds in excess of 40 mph will be possible with this storm.

Locations impacted include: Palm Bay, Melbourne, Rockledge, Cocoa and Cocoa Beach.

Torrential rainfall is also occurring with this storm, and may lead to localized flooding. Do not drive your vehicle through flooded roadways.

Frequent cloud to ground lightning is occurring with this storm.

Lightning can strike 10 miles away from a thunderstorm, so seek a safe shelter inside a building or vehicle.

Rain is expected to continue for over two hours.

Officials advise motorists to use caution and slow down.
