This deceptive scam ad is popping up in Facebook news feeds and claims that anyone can register to receive monthly payments from the Tobacco Master Settlement Agreement (MSA) of 1998.

BREVARD COUNTY, FLORIDA – The above deceptive scam ad is popping up in Facebook news feeds and claims that anyone can register to receive monthly payments from the Tobacco Master Settlement Agreement (MSA) of 1998.

It claims to offer individuals a “tax-free portion of this settlement” and are guaranteed to receive $2,300 every month, tax-free, forever.

WARNING! THESE ADS ARE A SCAM!

The MSA is a lawsuit settlement resulting in tobacco companies paying state governments roughly 10 billion dollars a year. But individuals are not eligible to receive payments and any ad claiming so is not true. In fact some State Attorney Generals have already issued warnings about these ads.

The ads are promoted by an investment advice company called “Money Morning.” They direct people to the “Money Map Press” website that offers up a 38 minute video on how anyone can get monthly checks for life.

But to learn how you must provide a credit card and sign-up for an auto renewing monthly newsletter called the “Money Map Report” for $129 a year or if you are over 60 for $79.

It’s all very slick and the carefully worded pitch never mentions that you’ll ultimately need to invest your money in tobacco backed tax free bonds which if profitable, produce dividend checks.
