Sled hockey enables those with disabilities the opportunity to play the rugged but beautiful game of hockey.

In the case of the Hurricanes, each cope with a history of disabilities, everything from cerebral palsy and war-related injuries to horrific car accidents, but doesn’t stop them from becoming fierce competitors…and winning.

Sled hockey is based on an adaptive device known as a sled, which is basically two skate blades and a runner in the front to form a tripod. Players use two shortened hockey sticks with a blade on one end a pick on the other to propel themselves across the ice.
