ORLANDO, FLORIDA – Kaboodle, a 14-year-old female walrus at SeaWorld Orlando, welcomed her first calf about a week ago.
This is a first for the SeaWorld Orlando family and they couldn’t be more excited.
According to animal care ambassadors who have kept a close watch on mom throughout the pregnancy, Kaboodle and her calf immediately began to bond and keep close to one another, even snuggling as they sleep (*cue awwwws*).

Many people may not know this, but walruses are pretty extraordinary creatures. For instance, calves are born with robust whiskers which help identify the shellfish they can eat.
While walruses are not yet listed as a threatened species, they have been affected by global climate change. That’s where SeaWorld Orlando has stepped in to help. With the permission of the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service, the park has been able to aid and care for orphaned walrus calves.
But don’t worry about the newest addition – Kaboodle is doing a great job as a first time mom.
While guests can’t currently see Kaboodle and her calf, don’t fret! The adorable pair are under 24 hour care with their husbandry team to make sure than mom and calf are growing and thriving together. We’ve heard that this dynamic duo is already bringing a lot of joy the team, especially when mom and calf vocalize with one another!
