Eastern Florida State Hires Jim Beitia As Next Softball Head Coach

BREVARD COUNTY • MELBOURNE, FLORIDA – Eastern Florida State College has hired Jim Beitia to be the head coach of the Titans softball program.

Beitia has more than 25 years of experience coaching both professionally in the National Pro Fastpitch League with the Carolina Diamonds as well as at the NCAA Division I level.

The Stockton, Calif. native helped build the University of Tennessee program from 1994 to 2001 where he accumulated a 233-163 record. In 1999 the Volunteers were co-champions of the SEC Eastern Division and made the NCAA regionals for the first time in school history.

“I would like to thank President Dr. James Richey, Vice President of External Affairs Jack Parker and associate vice president of athletics Jeff Carr for giving me this opportunity. My little niche in the softball world is renovation. I enjoy building a program and this is an opportunity to do that once again,” said Beitia who was the first coach at Tennessee and helped re-energize Arizona State and Auburn.

“What was attractive to me was the commitment to the facilities and other resources and I want to build the softball program into a program that can compete not only in the state, but nationally.”

Beitia has been a part of teams that have made the NCAA Division I World Series five times, three with Arizona State and twice with Auburn.

In 2008 Beitia was the director of operations at Arizona State when the Sun Devils won the national championship and was the director of operations for Auburn in 2016 when they finished as the runner-up.

He spent seven seasons at The University of Oklahoma, including two seasons as the head coach as well as a coach for the Spanish national team and is actively involved in BackSoftball which is an organization campaigning for the sport’s inclusion in the Olympic Games.

Beitia takes over a Titans program that was 14-35 last season and went 1-2 in the state tournament.
