Panthers look to build on 11-win season in 2016

Florida Tech released its 2017 soccer schedule and will host eight games at Rick Stottler Field.

BREVARD COUNTY • MELBOURNE, FLORIDA – Florida Tech released its 2017 soccer schedule and will host eight games at Rick Stottler Field.

Last year the Panthers completed the 2016 season ranked No. 25 in the NSCAA NCAA Final Postseason Rankings but will have a chance to climb the polls based on some of this year’s competition.

The team opens the season on Sept 2, where they will kick off the season against Francis Marion University.

The last time these two teams met was back in 2010, where Florida Tech topped the Patriots, 3-2 in double overtime on the road in Florence S.C.

Next, FIT will compete in a few non-conference games before entering into conference play.

The Panthers will open conference play against a tough Palm Beach Atlantic team that finished last season ranked 15th in the nation.

In 2016, Florida Tech suffered two narrow losses to the Sailfish, one of which came in the South Region Tournament.

Heading into the final stretch of SSC games, the Panthers will face off against two top contenders inside the conference.

Florida Tech will host the Fighting Knights at home on Oct 18, before heading to Tampa to face the Spartans at Pepin Stadium.

Both teams completed the 2016 season ranked in the Top 10 of the final postseason rankings.

The Panthers return several key players from last year’s 11-win season and look to advance deeper into, if not win the South Region Tournament.
