**UPDATE** Melbourne Police say 84-year-old Michael A. Chergosky injured in a Tuesday crash is now listed in stable condition, according to Lt. Cheryl Trainer of the Melbourne Police Department.

BREVARD COUNTY • MELBOURNE, FLORIDA – Melbourne Police responded to a traffic crash Tuesday afternoon involving a a vehicle and electric wheelchair that has critically injured 84-year-old Michael A. Chergosky near St. Clair St and US-1.

Rescue units responded to a call around 4:50 p.m. that vehicle and a man in wheelchair were involved in crash.

When rescue teams arrived they quickly transported the elderly man in the wheelchair to the hospital with life threatening injuries.

Further investigation has revealed that the wheelchair entered into oncoming traffic and was subsequently struck by the vehicle, according to Lt. T.A. Turner of the Melbourne Police Department.

Police are still investigating the details of the crash.
