City Manager Gregg Lynk announced Wednesday that Interim Chief Jim Rogers (Above) has been selected to serve as Palm Bay’s next Chief of Police.
BREVARD COUNTY • PALM BAY, FLORIDA – City Manager Gregg Lynk announced Wednesday that Interim Chief Jim Rogers has been selected to serve as Palm Bay’s next Chief of Police.
The decision to name Rogers as Palm Bay’s next chief came as a result of Rogers’ extensive history with the department, as well as the support expressed by City Council, staff and residents.
“Jim really fits the city’s commitment to be service-focused, strategic thinking, and innovative,” said City Manager Gregg Lynk.
“He has experience serving in a variety of roles and is highly analytical but able to relate to people at all levels.”
Lynk also listed Rogers’ demonstrated leadership abilities, 30 years of police experience, and his strong ties to the Palm Bay community as qualities that will make him an effective police chief.

“It is an honor and a privilege to serve the citizens of Palm Bay in this role,” said Rogers.
“I look forward to continued strong partnerships within our organization and across the larger community and look forward to serving as chief in the most professional manner possible.”
Shortly after the City Manager’s announcement Wednesday, Chief Rogers named Acting Deputy Chief Nelson Moya, as the city’s new Deputy Chief.
Rogers will be officially sworn in at Palm Bay’s next City Council Meeting on Thursday, July 20, at 7 p.m.
Deputy Chief Moya, a 26-year veteran of the Palm Bay Police Department, is currently assigned to the Special Operations Division, where he oversees the General Crimes Unit, Special Investigations Unit, and Public Information. He holds a bachelor’s degree in Administration and is a graduate of the Southern Police Institute Command Officer’s Development Course, the Florida Department of Law Enforcement Leadership Academy (Inaugural Session), the FBI’s Florida Executive Development Seminar and the Certified Public Manager program.
Chief Rogers began his career with the Palm Bay Police Department in 1987 before being named Deputy Chief in 2015.
His roles and duties have included the SWAT team, Patrol, Criminal Investigations, Professional Standards, Youth Services and the Communications Center.
Rogers is a graduate of the FBI National Academy and the Southern Police Institute, with an undergraduate degree in Criminal Justice Administration and a master’s degree in Political Science.
